When Sarah was ten years old she knew she would join the Peace Corps. Whether it was the enticing publicity or the thought of living in a different country and speaking a different language, she was hooked. After finishing college, she became a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, then Zaire working in public health. She took away much more than she put in including a special place in her heart and soul for Africa. She returned to New York City and got her Masters in Public Health (MPH) and worked for several years. She met her husband, Claudio, and they married in 1992 and moved to Italy where they currently live with their three children. In 2004, Sarah jumped on the occasion to go to Senegal and began to work with teachers in a street school but in 2005 returned with Elena, on the trip that was the beginning of Women for Girls. |
