Here’s a fantastic way to contribute to Women for Girls and to donate to programs that support women throughout the world.
In countries such as Senegal, women are the silent voices, whose destinies are too often decided by others. Women know how to improve their lives, most of the time they just need opportunities. Studies have shown that when women start to earn money, they invest it in their families; their children are healthier and attend school. With a new sense of self confidence, these women also begin to participate in decisions that influence them, their families, and their communities. Everyone benefits.
On November 1, I will be swimming 5 kilometers in the Atlantic Ocean from Dakar, the capital of Senegal to Gorée Island, the point of departure during the centuries of the African Slave Trade, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Participating in this event gives me the opportunity to raise money in a creative way by doing something I like—swimming. I’m always looking for fun and effective ways to earn money for WFG and it would be great if you and your friends could sponsor me in this event! I’m also raising funds for Dining for Women, a nonprofit giving circle that supports organizations benefiting women, children and their communities throughout the world. By having monthly dinners, women in DFW chapters across the USA raise money for programs which promote health, education, economic security, food security and human rights for women and girls in developing countries. Education and empowering women are essential components of these programs, as they are with our programs. Learn more about DFW by visiting its website at www.diningforwomen.org. Half of your contributions will go to Dining for Women.
If you choose, here’s how you can make a pledge: If you live in the USA, think about the tax-deductable amount you want to sponsor me for and write to both: marsha@diningforwomen.org and me at sarah@womenforgirls.org letting us know the amount. Please do this by October 20th. This way, before I leave for Senegal, I’ll have an idea…it’ll make me swim faster! And, after the swim I’ll be able to let you know how it went. You can then send a check payable to Dining for Women at 204 Stonebrook Farm Way Greenville, SC 29615 (please write Swimmin for Women in the memo line). Marsha will send half of the money to our Women for Girls bank account, 100% of our part will go to our programs. If you live in Italy or somewhere else in Europe you can write me with the amount you choose and then after the swim can deposit it into our bank account; the details are on the website. If you live in Italy, your donations are tax deductible. Please pass this to your friends because even one or two dollars per kilometer can do a lot for Women for Girls and the other organizations supported by Dining for Women. Someone will definitely be interested.
Your Swimmin for Women contributions will give women opportunities.
